Companionship, unconditional love, and so much more- the remarkable benefits of pet ownership for seniors

Older adults are often vulnerable to loneliness, isolation, and depression- all of which contribute to the onset of other health problems. For many, bonding with a furry friend is the perfect remedy, providing a source of joy, companionship, and unconditional love. Here are just a few of the numerous reasons that owning a pet improves the lives of seniors.

Pet food and supplies

Anyone who is eligible to receive Meals on Wheels can sign up for a monthly delivery of dog or cat food and supplies. When you call our office to sign up, we’ll ask how many dogs or cats you have and whether they have any dietary restrictions. We’ll also find out if your pet prefers dry or wet food. Once you’re enrolled, you’ll receive a monthly delivery of food and supplies free of charge to help you care for your furry family member.

Assistance with veterinary care

Treasured Friends Furever can help you find a vet, make an appointment, and transport you and your pet to the appointment. Give us a call and explain what your pet needs, and we’ll help you make the arrangements. On the day of the appointment, have your pet ready on a leash or in a carrier, and our staff member will transport you to and from the appointment.

Pet boarding

If circumstances such as a surgery or illness prevent you from being able to take care of your pet, we can help you find a safe place for your dog or cat to stay until you return home. Let us know the approximate length of time you expect to need care for your pet, and we’ll arrange boarding at a shelter facility or with a foster family. You can concentrate on getting well and coming home, knowing that your pet is safe and cared for while you’re gone.

Planning for your pet’s future

What would happen to your pet if something happened to you? Many of us don’t know the answer. At Treasured Friends Furever, we’ve developed a living will document that helps you plan for your pet’s care in the event that something happens to you. Our staff will help you fill it out and make two copies- one for you to keep at home, and the other to be kept at our office. Having this document in place can help to protect your pet from an uncertain future.
